Vera and I at our mom and baby workout class tonight.  It was fun!  (As you can see, she got a little hungry towards the end…maybe we should have done some carb-loading).

nudawn:

So Mills’ tweet reminded me of something.

The other day I got a thinly veiled insult of an email from Will regarding do-it-yourself bubbles.  I thought it was funny and smiled.  As i put down my blackberry i had a vision of Will walking towards me in slow motion wearing acid washed jeans and jacket, and this song playing in the background.

These things happen in my brain, seriously.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!  I can totally picture it!  Awesome.

S’more Brownies!!
The recipe we’ve all been waiting for…the delicious ooey-gooey texture of the campground: the s’more! I can’t wait to make these…they look delicious and I bet everyone will love them. They are simple to make and would be a great autumn/winter treat with a steaming cup of cocoa, coffee, or cider!
Ingredients
Crust:

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 cups crushed graham cracker crumbs
2 tablespoons sugar

Pinch fine salt

Brownie:

8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon fine salt
4 large cold eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour

Topping:

4 cups large marshmallows

Directions
Position a rack in the lower third of the oven and heat oven to 325 degrees F. Line an 8 by-8-inch square baking pan with foil so it hangs over the edges by about 1 inch.
For the crust: Lightly butter the foil with some of the melted butter. Stir the rest of the butter together with the crumbs, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl. Press the crumb mixture evenly over the bottom of the pan. Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, make the brownie. Put the butter and chocolate in a medium microwave safe bowl. Melt in the microwave on 75 percent power for 2 minutes. Stir, and microwave again until completely melted, about 2 minutes more. Alternatively, put the butter and chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Bring a saucepan filled with 1 inch or so of water to a very slow simmer; set the bowl on the pan without touching the water. Stir occasionally until melted. Stir the light brown and white sugars, vanilla and salt into the melted chocolate. Add the eggs and beat vigorously to make a thick and glossy batter. Add the flour and stir until just incorporated.
Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake until the top is crispy and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out mostly clean, with a few crumbs, about 40 to 45 minutes.
Remove from the oven and carefully position a rack about 6 inches from the broiler and preheat on low. Layer marshmallows across the top and toast under the broiler until golden, (keep an eye on it, it can go quick), about 2 minutes. Cool on a rack, gently removing the brownies from the pan using the aluminum flaps. Carefully separate any marshmallow from the foil and fold away. Cut into 12 (2-inch) squares.

If I wore graphic tees, I would buy this.  For some reason, I don’t.

Vera and I took a trip to the office today to visit and drop off some paperwork.  Berlin and Frank both held her, and she seemed to enjoy both of their company.  She wasn’t too wild about Bailey for some reason, ha ha.  Tiph and Mills both stayed at least 5 feet away, as usual ;)

She got to experience her first fire alarm, which was VERY loud.  I covered her ears until we got down the 6 flights of stairs, then we hung out with Nicki and Uncle Glenn outside.  I promise I don’t always look so bad; I swear I just take the worst pictures!  I really need to work on that.  Anyway, we’re home now, and Vera is napping.  It was a lot of excitement for one afternoon.

We have Baby Steps classes at 5:30, so I’ll post later and let you know how it went!

New skills

I’m thinking of adding “can open, measure, and administer Mylicon with one hand” to my resume’.  Actually, I could probably think up a whole list of things I’ve learned to do with one hand since having Vera (including type).

Q:  What do you get when two nerdy ghosts mate?
A:  An adorable octopus!
Our annual kids’ Halloween party was yesterday, followed by trick or treat, then the LSU game.  It was quite a day.  I hardly got any pictures, because I was extremely busy with the party, and the games.  I felt so disorganized this year.  Luckily, my mom and Nicki were there to help with Vera while I got things done.  After the party, Vera misinterpreted what I meant by “pass out candy,” and just passed out instead, but we still had fun.
If you love Darth Vadar, you need to check out the pics - Bill found a huge DV on craigslist, and strapped it to the top of his house.  Needless to say, all the neighborhood kids loved it.

A friend’s mom saw this post on Facebook, and left the following comment, linking to the picture above - ha!  (She’s a bird-watcher).
It does look like an owl’s face, a Great Horned Owl as a matter of fact. The straps resemble the ear tufts of this owl. Astute observation Syd!See photo of Great Horned Owl at:http://cdn-write.demandstudios.com/upload//9000/700/50/8/69758.jpg

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
I realize this is one of the more ridiculous things I’ve posted, but I can’t help myself.  (This is a nursing bra with nursing pads inside).  Every day, when I get dressed, I see this and think it looks like an owl or a set of scary monster eyes.  I thought it was appropriate for a Halloween post on a baby blog, right?
I wanted to make a fancy spook-tastic jpeg, but I just don’t have time.  Enjoy!

Vera’s becoming more alert every day.  I took this series yesterday for Wes, who misses a lot of the fun stuff while he’s at work.  She’s looking at a red bird on the side of one of her blocks.  Please excuse the poor composition in the photos.  I took these while resting her on my legs, holding a block in my left hand, and the camera in my right (oh, and I’m left-handed).

Anyway, the smile she gave me this morning when I got her out of bed melted my heart.  I am really looking forward to making her laugh.  I guess that’s coming soon!

So, I broke down and bought myself the onesie.  It’s totally awesome and perfect for breastfeeding.  Please forgive the tired looking version of Sydvish wearing it in the picture.
GPOYW - You don’t get to see the bottom half edition.  ;)
