Whatever happened to simple?

I went to Babies R Us yesterday, to get some necessities (basically, I need things that come in packs - gowns, onesies, socks).  I was horrified though, to realize, that there was not one gown I would consider putting on my child in the entire store.  Everything for girls says “diva” or “princess,” is hot pink, and/or covered in cutesy bugs and butterflies.  Whatever happened to simple, classic patterns on pastels?  Seriously, I wanted to vomit.  I went to Target afterwards, because I’ve heard they have some simple gowns, but I didn’t see anything there; the stock was kind of picked over.  I am going to try Carter’s today.  I’ve looked online, and all I can find are gowns that are $20.00/pc.  Although they are simple and classic, I can’t rationalize spending $20/gown…that’s insane.  I’ve heard that they can go through 3 a night, especially if they get sick.  Anyway, if anyone knows of any alternatives, please let me know.  I don’t want a baby Hannah Montana crawling around my house.  (Seriously, y’all, you should see some of the stuff that was out there - I couldn’t even find white)!!
